How to Make Indonesian Chicken Satay - Satay or sate  is a dish of seasoned, skewered and grilled meat, served with a sauce. Satay may consist of diced or sliced chicken, goat, mutton, beef, pork, fish, and other meats  uses skewers bamboo. These are grilled or barbecued over a wood or charcoal fire, then served with a spicy peanut sauce dip, or peanut gravy, slivers of onions, cucumbers, and ketupat (rice cakes).

Satay come from Indonesia and this dishes also popular in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, the Philippines and the Netherlands. There are many variety of Indonesian Chicken Satay and usually named after the region its originated such as Sate Ambal from Kebumen, Central Java, Sate Ampet

How to Make Indonesian Chicken Satay (With Video)




Ingredients :

  • 6 ons chicken breast halves, (cubed)
  • 45ml soya sauce
  • 3 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 15ml peanut oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, (peeled and crushed)
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch ground cumin

Satay Sauce : 

  • 15ml vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup grated onion
  • 250ml water
  • 1 clove garlic, (peeled and crushed)
  • 125g chunky peanut butter
  • 15ml lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons soya sauce
  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar
  • Bamboo skewers
  • barbeque grill
  • coal

Instructions :


  1. First cut the chicken breast fillet or macedoine cut
  2. And then put the chicken breast cubed into the skewer (3-4 pieces in one skewer)
  3. add 3 tbs of the sauce and sweet soya sauce on top of it.
  4. And then grill chicken satay into the coal.  brush the chicken with the marinate sauce while grilling 
  5. Occasionally turn the chicken until its cooked.
  6. After all the chicken satay its cooked, put the rest of the sauce, sweet soya sauce andlime juice then mix it together.
  7. Put the shallots on top of it. 
  8. Serve chicken satay with nice warm rice.
Step by Step  To Make the chicken satay sauce

  1. First chop the garlics and shallots
  2. Saute the chopped garlic and shallots until fragrance in medium-high heat
  3. add the fried peanuts and mix it well in low heat.
  4. add 1 cup of water and mix it well.
  5. After mix it well, add 2 spoon of salt and 1 spoon of sugar and mix it again.
  6. Finally, add 3 tbs of kecap manis or sweet soya sauce and mix well
